The end of an era
LAIKI GROUP Chairman Kikis Lazarides has resigned his post in what could be the start of a boardroom shake-up after Greece’s Marfin group acquired a stake earlier this year.
Lazarides, 71, had served notice to shareholders last year that he was planning to gradually relinquish his responsibilities for the company, which runs Cyprus’ second-largest bank.
“My departure… does not mean I have lost interest in the group or active involvement.
Rather, it will allow me to concentrate on my public duties and possibly assume some additional ones,” Lazarides said in an emotionally-charged letter addressed to the bank’s staff yesterday.
“Once again, I thank you for your long-time cooperation, your love and respect.
I thank you and bid you farewell,” the letter concluded.
A member of the International Olympic Committee, Lazarides holds a number of other posts, including the chairmanship of the Cyprus Cultural Foundation.
